The Gift of Listening

"A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions.  The words of a man's mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook.  He who answers before listening - that is his folly and his shame."  Prov. 18:2,4,13.

The word 'proverb' comes from a Hebrew word that means 'to rule or to govern.'  We govern our ear by purposing to listen. We govern our mouth by purposing to speak only what and when necessary. When we govern our lives according to God's path of success, we will have true prosperity and lasting destiny.

The philosopher, Plutarch, wrote, "The first evil that attends those who know not how to be silent, is that they hear nothing."  The art of listening is a powerful gift as it includes self-discipline, respecting others, valuing others opinions, and patience to give someone your quality time.  When we listen, we can learn.

Faith comes by hearing the word of God.  Encouragement comes by hearing the inspiration of others.  Peace comes by hearing the voice of God within you leading, caring, and helping.  Listening is a gift.  Listening is power.  To be a good listener makes you attractive and a priceless gift to your family, friends, and peers.  Listen to understand; listen to care; listen to respect; and you will become a priceless listener.

Kingdom Declaration:
Lord, I will listen as you speak to my heart and through others.
