The Power of the Cross

"Two robbers were crucified with Jesus one on his right and one on his left.  Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, 'you who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself!  Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!"  Matt. 27:38-40.

They didn't understand Him and so they misjudged Him.  They despised His salvation so they ignored Him.  They didn't believe in Him so they crucified Him.  The temple that He would destroy and rebuild was not a physical one.  His Kingdom is spiritual and not physical.  He would not save Himself because He came to save the world.  He remained on the cross until all sins and sicknesses were laid on Him.  When it was all over He cried, "It is finished," and died. The cross is the key to our freedom, power, and relationship with God.

A crowd of University students was coming home from an evening of pleasure.  Their drunken leader noticed on the steeple of a church a cross that was illuminated by the moonlight, and shouted, "Ye mathematicians, look at God's plus sign."  One of the students could not sleep that night.  Toward morning, he stepped into the leader's room and told him that the vision of the cross as God's plus sign had made him decide to uphold that cross as the symbol of God's abundant love for mankind.  Seven other university men very soon took the same step.

What does the cross mean to you?  The cross is our plus sign.  Jesus turned our minus into plus.  The cross demonstrates both the power and the love of God.  By His power in one act Jesus dealt a destructive blow to Satan and all his works of evil; by His love He saved mankind from the sins of the world.  By His power, He conquered death, hell, and sin; by His love, He purchased for His believers all the freedom, victory, blessings and glory that we could ever contain.

Because of the cross, you can now partake of the riches of His glory that was prepared in advance for you.  Because of the cross, He will glorify you that you might become the praise of His glory.  Because of the cross, we say: "Amen" to the angel's declaration: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory."  Is. 6:3.

Kingdom Declaration:
The cross of Jesus Christ is my weapon against all temptations, failures, and sickness.  I have victory because of the cross.
