"Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.' And they divided up his clothes by casting lots." (Luke 23:34.)
Jesus at the time of His death demonstrated His absolute power to forgive. Amid ridicule, torture, rebellion, curses, sorrow, and injustice, He had only words of forgiveness for the people. On the cross in agony He watched the people that He fed, healed, and helped only days before, shouting, "Crucify him". The battle for His soul was greater than His physical torment. Temptations of bitterness, anger, revenge, hate, and curses could have invaded His heart but He chose to suffer it all and forgive. For God so loved the world that He chose to die for people and to forgive then and now.
I read of the hijackers who terrorized the passengers aboard an Indian Airlines jet for eight days. Then on December 31, 1999, the gunmen issued a final demand before releasing their hostages. "Sorry, but everyone has to say that I am forgiven," said the hijacker code-named "Burger." When the passengers stared back at him in disbelief, he ordered them to say, "I forgive you." After hearing the words, the hijackers disappeared into the desert.
Unbelievable as it might seem, Jesus is still willing to forgive you for every sin or mistake that you might have committed, even the ones against Him. God's power of forgiveness cancels every power of the enemy in your life. Today receive His forgiveness and His love again even as you forgive and love others also. Hear Him say to you today: "I forgive you."
Kingdom Dynamics:
I live in the security of God's forgiveness for myself and for others.
