"But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive the full rights of sons." (Gal. 4:4,5).
To care for a foster child is a compassionate and unselfish undertaking which carries with it many risks. Children that are placed in the custody of the State usually come from a dysfunctional background of parents that are unfit to care for them. When the State renders parents unfit it is usually because of abuse of some kind or neglect and therefore foster children can have emotional and relational problems.
It is one thing to be a foster parent (temporary) but it is another thing to adopt a child (permanently). An adoption means that the child becomes family and joint-heirs to the family name and assets. God did not only offer us care and compassion, but He gave us the full rights of sons and daughters. "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God - children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will but born of God." (John 1:12,13).
He did this knowing that we are imperfect and from an imperfect background. He knows that we will fail Him and fail others, yet He takes the risk to love us anyway and calls us His children. What a privilege to be adopted into the family of God. As His child you have the right to His Name, you are a joint-heir with Jesus, and you have a delightful inheritance not only on Earth but also in heaven. Everything that God owns He shares with you. You have a loving Father and King who loves you.
