The Fruit of the Spirit

The Fruit of the Spirit "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law." Gal. 5:22-23.   The Bible describes the 'fruit of the Spirit' with nine manifestations. The word 'fruit' is singular suggesting that all believers must aim to grow in all nine areas.   The fruit of the Spirit is: 1) Love. God's love, 'Agape', is the essence of God being poured out lavishly and consistently in you and through you. Love gives. Love shares. Love forgives. Love cares for others. 2) Joy. Happiness is determined by circumstances, and what is "happening" to us. Joy is a deep delight in knowing who and whose you are. Joy rejoices in confident security. 3) Peace. Jesus is called the Prince of Peace. His peace enters our hearts as an anchor through life circumstances. He gives us peace with God and the peace ofGod. 4) Longsuffering or Patience. With this fruit, we submit to God's timing and the release of His ultimate purpose in our lives. It is an attitude of grace towards others in their times of weakness. 5) Kindness. This is the working out of acts of love and care. It can be demonstrated in thoughts, words, and actions. 6) Goodness. This is showing forth the grace of God in helping others, giving, sharing and encouraging, even when it is undeserved. 7) Faithfulness. Preserving that which is committed in our care; being consistent in good character in all areas of life. 8) Gentleness. Gentleness is the manifestation of strength in control. It is dealing with issues with grace versus arrogance or anger. 9) Self-control. This speaks of self-government, temperance and order. The power of self-control begins within and flows out in all areas of life. Imperfection is a part of humanity. As we pray and yield ourselves to the Spirit of God, He will patiently change and help us to be more and more like Him, showing more of His fruit.
