You can be blessed by God
"Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, 'I gave birth to him in pain.' Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, 'Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.' And God granted his request." I Chronicles 4:9,10
Jabez was rejected by his mother and abandoned by his father. He was named by his mother Jabez which means, 'son of sorrow and pain'. Jabez had a defining moment, he was ready for change. He chose to create his world and not assume his parents' world by default. He chose a higher power than his parents - God, His Creator. He rebuilt his life on the strong foundation of God. "For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 3:11.
With God as Jabez foundation he found:
1) Love. "Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:39. With the unconditional love of God in his life he had the confidence to dream dreams and to create a successful life.
2) Security. True security comes in knowing that your past is covered under the blood of Jesus; you are presently in His care and protection; and your future is in His hands.
3) Significance. He created a life of meaning and influence. A city, Jabez, was named in his honor.
4) Success. True success is to find the will of God for your life and then do it. Earthly success is temporary but success in God is eternal and with eternal rewards.
The result was that Jabez became more honorable than his brothers. "Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him." Psalm 34:8.
