The danger of self condemnation
"Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases Him." 1 John 3:21,22.
It is one thing to have someone that tries to abuse you physically or emotionally but self-abuse is even more dangerous. Self-accusation results in self-condemnation. As believers we have a peaceful way of dealing with our failures and crises. Daily we ask God to forgive us for all our imperfections in thought, word, and deed. It includes sins of omission and commission. His forgiveness is instantaneous and therefore we can leave the place of prayer guilt-free and without condemnation.
When we put ourselves down, we meditate on what is lacking instead of being grateful for what we have; we compare ourselves to others and come out negative; we beat up on ourselves and work ourselves into a state of self-condemnation. This is dangerous as in this state, faith, and blessings are blocked. Self-condemnation blocks answers to prayers. God responds to faith not fear, confidence not condemnation, and hope not despair.
Today, exchange condemnation for courage. Chuck Swindoll writes: "Courage is not limited to the battle field or the Indianapolis 500 or bravely catching a thief in your house. The real tests of courage are much quieter. They are the inner tests, like remaining faithful when nobody's looking, like enduring pain when the room is empty, like standing alone when you're misunderstood."
Whenever you face a storm have the courage to free yourself from condemnation, to be faithful to that which is true, and to go boldly before God in prayer knowing He is with you always.
