Diving the warm waters of the Gulf of Oman is an experience that yields unforgettable rewards for its visitors. With turtles, vividly coloured shoals of fish, rays, dolphins and whale sharks among its many inhabitants, this underwater world is perfect for exploration – not to mention numerous photographic opportunities. Yet for one visitor to Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel, a dropped camera while snorkelling threatened to put a dampener on his holiday. With his high-tech kit last seen sinking to the seabed, two of the hotel’s quick-thinking employees were luckily on hand and took it on themselves to scuba-dive to the depths of the ocean, managing to salvage both the camera and its all-important memory card. Result – one hugely relieved guest.
This was just one of a series of real guest stories that highlights the impeccable Ritz-Carlton approach to guest service showcased at the recent Room No. 8 event in London. This five-day immersive experience – produced in association with GQ and Vogue – took visitors on a sensory trip around the world through the eyes of delighted Ritz-Carlton guests, delivering unique tales from select members of the luxe hotel group’s 90-strong portfolio, including Al Bustan Palace.
One of the Ritz-Carlton brand’s most prestigious addresses, Al Bustan Palace is set at the foot of the Al-Hajar mountains where they plunge into the crystalline Gulf of Oman, creating a dramatic beach-front setting for guests who will find a perfect blend of Arab and art-deco influences across the thoughtfully decorated resort. Dining options include a lively beach grill serving fresh seafood, an internationally inspired à la carte terrace restaurant, authentic Asian cuisine at China Mood, and the stunning Atrium Tea Lounge. The beautiful 1km-long private beach and five outdoor swimming pools allow plenty of scope for watersports, while the Six Senses Spa – built in the traditional Omani style – offers an array of treatments as well as a yoga studio and a natural juice station.
The hotel’s location on the sultry south-east coast of Oman provides the perfect base from which to explore the country’s breathtaking natural highlights. Beyond the characterful port capital of Muscat, a heady, architecturally striking blend of Bedouin and Arab heritage, Oman’s riches are most apparent in the sweeping dunes of the Wahiba Sands, its towering mountain ranges and shimmering seas – all of which guarantee that visitors will be reaching for their own cameras.\
