"Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, 'Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you." Luke 2:47-48.
We have always thought of the great love of our Heavenly Father who gave His Son Jesus to save the world. We have thought of the great sacrifice of Jesus Christ who gave up His life for our sins. But have you ever thought of the great sacrifice of His mother Mary. She gave her womb as His birthing place; her bosom for His resting place; and her heart as His throne for love.
Mary suffered rejection, ridicule, and had to resist the shame as others slandered her for having a son without a natural father. She was pregnant by God and not by Joseph. Mary loved God and loved her son, Jesus whom she knew was the Son of God. She knew His purpose. His name described His purpose: "She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." Matt. 1:21. Mary mothered Jesus from the womb and as a child. She loved her Son, Savior of the world.
God is like a mother to His children, the one who takes us in His lap when we cry and remains committed to us forever. He says to you: "As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you." Isaiah 66:13. It is said that a mother's love is the closest thing on earth to God's love. We all owe our lives to our mothers. May God's love flood your heart today as He cares and hold you together with His sustaining love.
