"One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples." Luke 11:1.
As we begin a New Year of purpose and pursuit of God's manifested glory in and through us, let us be coached by Jesus on how to pray intentionally and strategically to please our Heavenly Father, and to rule in both the natural and spiritual kingdoms.
Prayer includes:
1) Worship. In worship we exalt God for who He is, what He can do, and what He will do for those who believe in Him. Worshipping God will put you in your right mind to see Him greater than your problems. It will remind you that God is Almighty and King of Glory. As you worship your faith grows and problems become only seeds for victory and the Glory of God. "Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness." Ps. 29:2.
2) Communion. Sharing, listening, learning, crying, venting, asking, and loving in the presence of God. God is real and you can be real with Him. "May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all." 2 Cor. 13:14.
3) Praying for others. God loves you, your family, friends, and peers. God loves the world. When you pray for others, you give God the opportunity to bless them because you asked.
4) Thanksgiving. Faith is an important aspect of prayer. When you pray, pray with expectation for answered prayers. Believe, receive and end with thanksgiving.
A.J. Gordon says: "You can do more than pray after you have prayed; but you can never do more than pray until you have prayed." As we believe for God's manifested Glory in our lives, family and all that is important to us, we will learn from Jesus how to pray for the next few days as we study, 'Praying like Jesus'.
