Remember the poor(Jan 15)

Remember the poor
"Blessed is he who considers the poor; The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.  The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive, and he will be blessed on the earth; you will not deliver him to the will of his enemies."  Psalm 41:1-2.

God has carefully included in the Bible emphasis on caring for the poor.  First, He gives us His will for all people:  "However, there should be no poor among you, for in the land the LORD your God is giving you to possess as your inheritance, he will richly bless you."  Deuteronomy 15:4. However, He also said, "There will always be poor people in the land.  Therefore I command you to be open handed toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land."  Deuteronomy 15:11.

Jesus further tells us that we will be judged according to how we treat the poor:  "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.  For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me."  Matthew 25:34-36.  Note that poverty includes lack of freedom.

Jesus described His anointing and glory: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has appointed me to preach Good News to the poor."  Luke 4:18 (NLT).  Poverty is not just lack of money.  The greatest poverty is a heart without God. Good news to the poor is that salvation, help, peace has come in Jesus, who is the Savior of the world without prejudice.

God gave us many promises for helping the poor, "Blessed is he who considers the poor; The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.  The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive, and he will be blessed on the earth; you will not deliver him to the will of his enemies."  Psalm 41:1-2.  Serving the poor is a privilege to receive God's blessing and manifested glory in your life.

Kingdom Declaration:
I am a solution for the poor.  I am blessed to be a blessing and glorified to bring God glory on
